Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has taken a major U-turn amid the controversy surrounding the appointment of his astrologer and close aide Ricky Radan Pandit Vetrivel. The Vijay government had appointed Vetrivel as Chief Minister’s Officer on Special Duty (Political), but the decision had to be withdrawn within 24 hours after sharp criticism from the opposition and allies. The opposition had alleged that personal beliefs and astrology were being given place in the government. After the controversy escalated, the government issued an official circular and announced the cancellation of the appointment.
Ricky Radan Pandit Vetrivel’s appointment canceled within 24 hours
“The order relating to the appointment of Thiru Ricky Radan Pandit Vetrivel as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister is canceled with immediate effect,” the Vijay government said in a circular issued on Wednesday. This decision came at a time when the government had issued the order for the appointment of Vetrivel a day earlier. According to the government order, he was given political coordination and advisory responsibilities in the Chief Minister’s Office.
