Where does it happen that a squad is selected for any series of Team India and there is no debate on it? Be it a tournament or a big or small series, allegations of injustice start being made when some player is dropped, selected or ignored. Some are true and some are the emotions of fans. But it fits Team India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has now been restricted to just one format.
on Tuesday 19th May India-Afghanistan Two different squads of Team India were announced for the Test match and ODI series. Some new players got a place in this squad, while some senior players were released. But amid the discussions about these players, there was not much talk on one name and that is Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been retained in the Test team but has been dropped from the ODI squad.
Was a backup opener, now out of the team
Left-handed star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been playing for Team India for the last three years, has been considered the future of Team India in all three formats. He has made his place in Tests but in ODIs and T20s he has not got enough opportunities and has been seen lagging behind. He has already been out of the team in T20 and now he seems to be out of the team in ODI also. He was a part of Team India in the last series itself, where he did not get a chance to play but was included in the team. Just before that, he had also scored his first century in the ODI match against South Africa.
In such a situation, it was expected that he would be available as a backup opener in this series also. Especially considering Rohit Sharma’s fitness problem, he will get a chance to play. Also, in view of the World Cup to be held next year, it was believed that he would be prepared as a backup opener. But this decision has surprised everyone.
Not considered worthy even in test
Not only this, the selection committee has also taken a decision regarding the leadership of the Test team. Rishabh Pant has been removed from the vice-captaincy and this responsibility has again been given to KL Rahul. This decision is surprising and there is a reason for it too. In fact, after removing Pant, the selection committee had the opportunity to make Jaiswal the vice-captain, so that a new captain can be prepared in the future.
If this had happened then Jaiswal would have had a lot of leadership experience by now but the selectors have surprised him by leaving this opportunity. Due to this, questions are being raised whether the team management or the selection committee is angry with Jaiswal on some issue or is there some other reason due to which he is being dropped from the team or is not considered worthy of the responsibility?
