Story of mother Tapti’s birth
According to the story of Skanda Purana, the intense heat of Sun God could not be tolerated by the earth and the world of gods. Even the Sun itself was not able to control its brightness and heat. Then he released the intense heat of his body on the earth in the form of a stream of water. So that their heat cools down. Mother was born from this ‘heat’ of the sun. Due to their origin from the heat of the Sun, they were named Tapi.
Tapti is considered to be extremely beneficial and a river that destroys sins. It is believed that by taking bath in river Ganga, just by seeing Narmada ji and by merely remembering or taking the name of Tapti river, the sins of many births can be washed away.
