Dambulla: India A lost against Sri Lanka A by 7 runs in a very exciting tri-series match. The match was so dramatic that first both the teams tied the match by scoring 265-265 runs, after which Sri Lanka won in the super over. What happened was that while batting first, India A team was all out for 265 in 49.2 overs. In reply, Sri Lanka A was also all out at 265. After this, Indian captain Tilak Verma demanded a super over from the umpires, which was accepted.
Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 16 runs in the Super Over. To chase the target of 17 runs, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Suryansh Shedge came out for India A.
Suryansh Shedge could score only 3 runs on the first three balls. Vaibhav scored one four and 2 runs on the last three balls, but the team could score only 9 runs. In this tied match, India A lost a game which it had won by 7 runs. Earlier in the match, the umpire had also imposed a penalty of 10 runs on India A because Vipraj Nigam had run twice into the danger area of the pitch. This penalty also played a big role in India’s defeat.

Earlier, while chasing the target of 266 runs, Sri Lanka tied the match thanks to Sadira Samarawickrama’s brilliant inning of 93 runs. In the last over, Sri Lanka needed 5 runs to win and the ball was in the hands of Arshad Khan. Arshad raised India’s hopes by dismissing Samarawickrama on the very second ball. Sri Lanka needed 2 runs on the last three balls, but they could score only one run and the match was tied. Immediately after this, Tilak Verma demanded a super over.
The drama did not reduce even in the Super Over. Sri Lankan batsman Avishka Fernando was caught out on the last ball of the Super Over. Indian players started leaving the field, but the umpire declared the full toss as a no-ball and the players had to come back. After this, captain Tilak Verma expressed his inability to bat citing bad light, but the umpire ordered batting after checking with the light meter.
Apart from Samarawickrama (93) for Sri Lanka, Niroshan Dickwella scored 37, Vanujaa Sahan scored 25 and Avishka Fernando scored 22 runs. Ayush Badoni took 2 wickets for India.
Earlier, India A had a bad start after losing the toss and coming to bat first. But thanks to half centuries from Suryansh Shedge and Vipraj Nigam in the middle order, the team was able to reach 265 in 49.2 overs. Suryansh Shedge was the top scorer by scoring 72 runs in 66 balls. Vipraj Nigam scored 51 runs in 49 balls. At one time the team had lost 7 wickets at 143, but Vipraj and Shedge made a century partnership for the eighth wicket and took the team to a respectable score. Rituraj Gaikwad scored 37 runs, captain Tilak Verma scored 23 runs and Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 21 runs. Mohammed Shiraz and Vijayakanth Vyaskanth took 3 wickets each for Sri Lanka A.
