Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, has been one of the most anticipated movies in Bollywood. The film, which is divided into two parts, had a special trailer screening on July 18 for a select audience. During the screening, a major surprise was revealed. Rumours of Sunny Deol being a part of Ramayana had been making headlines days before the event took place. And, at the event, it was confirmed that Sunny is indeed a part of the film. What role will Sunny Deol play in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana?
During the special event in Delhi, Sunny Deol revealed that he will playing the role of Lord Hanuman. Sunny made a surprise appearance at the grand trailer launch event in Delhi and revealed that he has only just begun shooting for the film and still has a long journey ahead before completing the demanding role.
Speaking at the event on Saturday, Sunny said, “Dekhiye sach batau toh maine abhi kaam sirf thoda sa hi kiya hai isme, mujhe bohot aage badhna hai (To be honest, I have only done a little bit of work on it so far. I still have a long way to go.)”

Discussing about his role and the efforts he has been pulling out for it, Sunny said, “Ramayana hum Hindustan ka aur Hindustaniyon ke liye sabse badi cheez hai. Main Wahe Guruji ka shukriya karta hoon ki mujhe mauka mila Hanuman ji ke kirdar ko nibhane ka. Main poori koshish karunga ki main sahi tarah ise nibha sakun, kyunki Hanuman ji ke character ko nibhana aasan nahi hai (The Ramayana is one of the greatest treasures of India and its people. I thank Wahe Guruji for giving me the opportunity to play Lord Hanuman. I will give my best to do justice to this role because portraying Hanuman is not easy).”
“Lekin maza bahut aayega kyunki woh natkhat hain, innocent hain, takatvar hain, aap sabke pyaare bhi hain aur Ram ji ke bhakt bhi (But it will be a joyful experience because Hanuman is playful, innocent, immensely powerful, loved by everyone, and the greatest devotee of Lord Ram),” he added.
Sunny Deol’s surprise appearance at the event was welcomed with thunderous applause from the audience. One of the most heartwarming moments of the evening came when Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Ram in the film, greeted the veteran actor by touching his feet.

Helmed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. The film will be released in two parts. While one will hit big screens on Diwali 2026, other will be released on Diwali 2027.
