This corridor will be built in two phases
- Under this project, work will be done in two parts. First, 125.01 km of Hiwarkhedi-Roshni-Ashapur-Rudhi section of NH-347B will be upgraded with two-lane and paved shoulders. Second, 108.643 km stretch of Deshgaon-Julwania section will be made four-lane from the existing two-lane.
- According to the Cabinet Committee, this upgradation will eliminate serious defects in road structure, dangerous turns and traffic jams in populated areas in Betul, Khandwa, Khargone and Barwani districts. Under the project, a new 16.20 km long greenfield bypass will also be built for Khargone district.
What benefit does MP get from this decision of Modi government?
- This project will increase the average speed of vehicles, reduce travel time and improve road safety.
- Fuel savings and maintenance cost of vehicles will also be reduced, which will make movement in the area easier.
- This project will provide direct connectivity to important economic, social and logistics centers of Madhya Pradesh.
- This upgraded corridor will connect PM Gati-Shakti’s 6 economic nodes (1 textile cluster, 2 mega food parks, 1 industrial park, 2 super thermal power plants), 5 social nodes (2 aspirational districts – Khandwa and Barwani, 3 tribal districts – Betul, Khandwa, Khargone) and 5 logistics nodes (2 major railway stations, 2 airports, 1 MMLP). This will speed up the movement of goods and passengers in the entire region.
This project will prove to be a boon for Betlu-Khandwa
- This total 233.653 km long project on Betul-Khandwa-Vadodara corridor has been prepared with the aim of improving regional connectivity and promoting economic development in the state.
- The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 4,415.60 crore. Of this, Rs 2,705.08 crore will be spent on civil construction and Rs 432.77 crore will be spent on land acquisition. To streamline traffic and avoid congestion, the project also includes bypasses of 70.39 km for the Hiwarkhedi section and 54.273 km for the Deshgaon-Julwania section.
- This highway will strategically connect major cities like Betul, Khandwa, Khargone and Barwani. It will also be connected to several other important national highways such as NH-47, NH-753, NH-347BG, and NH-52 as well as the state highway SH-15. This improved network will make it easier to reach Indore and Nagpur airports as well as Betul and Khandwa railway stations.
