This strange incident happened in Springfield city of Missouri state of America. A 19-year-old boy here alleged that because of the name given to him by his parents in his childhood, he had to face huge loss and insult. The boy filed a petition in the court demanding compensation of 1.50 lakh dollars.
So what was the boy’s name?
According to the case registered in the court, the boy’s parents had named him ‘Gaylord Thomson’. The boy says that because of this name he had to suffer emotional pain for years. In school and college, his friends and classmates constantly made fun of him. Even in class, when the teacher read his name while taking attendance, he was surprised for a moment. They thought it was a joke. Because of this his studies were also adversely affected. This boy was a senior student at Kickapoo High School.
Son asked for compensation of Rs 1.25 crore
The boy alleged that his parents failed to choose a good name, especially considering today’s social climate. At that time the boy’s father was a truck driver and mother worked as a secretary in a church. He told the court that he had named his son in honor of his grandfather. He had no idea that this name would create such a big problem in the future. Although this incident is a few years old, but now it is going viral again on social media and people are making funny comments on it.

Actually, ‘Gaylord’ is a male name of French/Celtic origin, meaning ‘cheerful’ or ‘joyous god’. But the meaning of this word changed with time. In today’s language ‘Gay’ means homosexual. Hence ‘Gaylord’ came to mean ‘gay god’. Homosexuals are looked at differently in the society, due to which this name attracts people’s attention and the person having this name has to become the butt of jokes.
