Sting Energy Drink Ban: Maharashtra government has decided to ban the sale of Sting energy drink and other intoxicants within 500 meters of schools. Know the new rule, the government’s concerns, its impact on children’s health and what preparations are being made for those below 18 years of age.
Energy drinks sold near schools will now be under strict surveillance of the administration in Maharashtra. Taking a big decision, the state government has announced that the sale of Sting energy drink and other intoxicants will be banned within 500 meters of schools. The government says that this step has been taken keeping in mind the health of children, because experts have been raising concerns about the caffeine and excess sugar present in energy drinks for a long time.
Issue raised in assembly, government gave strict instructions
The matter was raised in the Assembly by BJP MLA Vikram Pachpute. In response, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Minister Narhari Zirwal said that the concerns raised regarding the sale of energy drinks like Sting around schools are justified. He said that if Sting or other intoxicants are found being sold within 500 meters of any school premises, immediate action will be taken against the people concerned. For this, the Food and Drug Administration has been instructed to strictly enforce the rules.
Increased concern about children’s health
According to health experts, most energy drinks contain high amounts of caffeine and sugar. Regular consumption can cause sleep problems, restlessness, increased heart rate, and other health risks in children. For this reason, the government has also directed schools to conduct awareness campaigns among students and parents about the possible health risks of energy drinks, so that children stay away from such beverages.
There may also be a ban on sales to children under 18 years of age
In the Assembly, MLA Vikram Pachpute also raised the question whether the government would impose a separate ban on selling energy drinks like Sting to children below 18 years of age. At the same time, MLAs Rahul Kul and Varun Sardesai also demanded the government to take more strict steps in this direction. Minister Narhari Zirwal said the government will further strengthen the awareness campaign at the school level and ensure that the restrictions are effectively enforced around schools. The government believes that this decision will reduce children’s access to energy drinks and other intoxicants and will make the environment around schools safer.
