Why is pruning necessary?
During pruning you have to remove dry, weak, diseased branches. You can take the help of scissors (pruner) or a knife. You have to cut the branches above the node area so that they can grow quickly. Pruning prevents the plant from spreading and grows in the correct shape. Insects and fungi grow quickly in dense and tangled branches. In such a situation, pruning improves the flow of air and sunlight and the plants grow faster.

Apply paste on the stem after pruning
When you are done pruning, apply Bordeaux paste to the cut part of the stem. You can easily buy this paste from nurseries. Applying it protects the plant from fungal infections and also helps in healing the cut area quickly. If you want, you can also make Bordeaux paste by mixing 1 part copper sulphate and 1 part lime with some water.
