Cockroach Janata Party President Abhijit Dipke has expressed happiness over the end of Sonam Wangchuk’s fast. He said that nothing less than the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is acceptable and the nationwide agitation of students will continue.
New Delhi [भारत]July 24 (ANI): Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founding president Abhijit Dipke on Friday expressed happiness that Sonam Wangchuk has ended her indefinite hunger strike, but also expressed concern over the limited access to her during the protests. The CJP president stressed that nothing less than the resignation of the Union Education Minister will satisfy the protesters.
Demand for resignation of Education Minister
Speaking to reporters, Abhijit Dipke pointed to the restrictions imposed on visitor access. He said, “I think the government had kept Sonam Wangchuk in custody. JP Nadda could have met her, but no opposition MP could meet her. Even we could not meet her. I am very happy that Sonam sir has ended her hunger strike.”
Highlighting the independent nature of the ongoing protests, he said, “Nothing less than (Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s) resignation is acceptable to us. The protests will not be called off.” The founding president of CJP further said that the movement represents the common students across the country rather than any political opposition. Abhijit Dipke said, “This protest belongs to the youth of the country and is not limited to one Sonam Wangchuk or Dipke. This protest belongs to the youth of the country, not the opposition parties. If the government wants a solution to this protest, then it is only Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.”
negotiations with the government
On Friday, Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das confirmed that a delegation would meet government representatives at the Constitution Club of India for important discussions, adding that some issues remained non-negotiable. Addressing a press conference, he said, “The delegation has been invited for talks with the government at 12:30 pm. JP Nadda and Bhupendra Singh will be present. They will clarify the government’s stand and address the demands, although some issues are non-negotiable. The meeting will not be held in their offices. If they are hesitant in coming to Jantar Mantar, perhaps due to some apprehension, then it is the Constitution Club of India. “They took two days to consider the matter and confirmed last night that the meeting will be held at the Constitution Club.”
Nature of the movement and Wangchuk got assurance
Meanwhile, CJP representative Ashutosh Ranka pointed out that the main organizers had no prior experience in political activism before raising questions on systemic failures. He said, “When we reached Jantar Mantar for the first time on June 6, when Deep had just returned from America, I personally went to pick him up; we had never seen Jantar Mantar in our lives; we had never seen it before.”
Meanwhile, CJP president Abhijit Dipke, in a post on Twitter, demanded ministerial accountability, saying the education minister will have to step down in view of the ongoing examination controversies. He wrote, “Dharmendra Pradhan should resign!”
Earlier, Sonam Wangchuk ended her 26-day hunger strike at Medanta Hospital in the presence of Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh. He had received written assurance from the Central Government regarding the NEET exam issue and reforms in the competitive examination system of the country. Wangchuk said, “The ministers who had come from the government side also gave this assurance. For the last two days, a very tough—how should I say—kind of ‘bargaining’ was going on because I wanted this assurance in writing. It took two extra days, and if needed I would have sat for more, but finally, today they have given the assurance in writing.”
On the other hand, PM Modi had assured strict action against those responsible for the alleged paper leak and said the Union Cabinet will consider a draft bill providing for fast-track courts and stringent punishment for criminals. (ANI)
