Sonam Wangchuk Case News: Delhi High Court has currently rejected the demand to shift Sonam Wangchuk to a private hospital. The court asked for cooperation with the doctors and issued a notice to Delhi Police.

An important hearing was held in the Delhi High Court in the case related to Ladakh’s social activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk. The court refused to give any kind of interim order at present, saying that it is not necessary at this stage. Also advised Wangchuk to cooperate with the doctors in his treatment and did not accept his wife’s demand to shift her to a private hospital. The next hearing of the case will be on July 24.

What did the High Court say?

During the hearing held in the court of Justice Mini Pushkarna, the court made it clear that the decision to send Sonam Wangchuk to the hospital was not arbitrary. The court said that at present there is no need to order his transfer to a private hospital. A notice has been issued to Delhi Police in this matter and the date of July 24 has been fixed for detailed hearing. The court also expected Wangchuk to cooperate fully with the doctors.

What did the Central Government and AIIMS tell in the court?

Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, appearing for the central government, told the court that Sonam Wangchuk had initially refused to take an IV-drip, but later gave her consent. The court asked whether the treatment was given against his wish, to which the government replied that he had only asked about the availability of sugar-free medicine. During the hearing, AIIMS doctors were also present in the court and informed about Wangchuk’s current health condition. The government said they should trust specialist doctors and cooperate with the medical team like other citizens.

Wife raised questions, demanded to be sent to private hospital

Sonam Wangchuk’s wife Geetanjali raised questions on the arrangements at Safdarjung Hospital in a petition filed in the Delhi High Court. He asked the court to allow Wangchuk to be discharged from the hospital or transferred to a private hospital of his choice. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal told the court that he had also contacted Medanta Hospital. He claimed that Wangchuk was not allowed to meet his lawyer and personal doctor and it was not clear what medicines he was being given. At present, the court has refused to grant interim relief and the next hearing of the case will be on July 24.
