Somnath Temple’s 75th Anniversary: History will be created today on May 11, 2026, in Somnath Temple, which is considered the first among the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. A grand event of Somnath Amrit Parva is being organized to commemorate the completion of 75 years of the consecration and reconstruction of the temple. on this special occasion Prime Minister Narendra Modi Will also participate in the program and will witness the first Kumbhabhishekam to be held on the 90 meter high peak of the temple. For this, the temple complex has been specially decorated and devotees from all over the country are reaching Somnath to see this historical moment.
‘Kumbhabhishek’ for the first time on the peak with the waters of 11 pilgrimages
The biggest attraction of Somnath Amrit Parva is the first Kumbhabhishek which takes place on the peak of the temple. According to the information, this consecration will be done with the water of 11 holy places of pilgrimage. For this, a huge Kalash has been specially prepared, in which holy water is filled. It is being told that the process of this ritual will be completed at a special auspicious time amidst chanting of Vedic mantras. With the help of a huge crane, the Kalash will be lifted to the 90 meter high peak of the temple, where the ceremonial consecration will be performed by the priests and Vedacharyas.
What is Kumbhabhishek?
Kumbhabhishek is considered a very ancient and sacred ritual of Hindu temple tradition. This ritual is performed with the aim of reawakening the spiritual power and energy of the temple. In this, the deity idol installed in the pinnacle, Kalash and sanctum sanctorum of the temple is anointed with holy water, medicines and mantras. The tradition of Kumbhabhishek is especially famous in the temples of South India, but this type of event being organized for the first time on the peak of Somnath temple is making it historic. There is a religious belief that with Kumbhabhishek the divine energy and positive power of the temple increases manifold.

Reconstruction took place 75 years ago
The history of Somnath temple is thousands of years old. According to mythology, Chandradev i.e. Som had performed penance for Lord Shiva here, due to which this Jyotirlinga was named Somnath. This temple is also mentioned in Rigveda and many ancient texts. The temple was damaged many times in history due to invasions, but every time it was rebuilt. After independence, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the iron man of India, had resolved to rebuild the Somnath temple. After this the temple was rebuilt and on 11 May 1951, the country’s first President Rajendra Prasad consecrated it. Now Amrit Parv is being celebrated on the completion of 75 years of that historical day.
Religious importance of Somnath temple
Somnath temple is a very important center of Hindu faith. It is considered to be the first Jyotirlinga among the 12 Jyotirlingas. There is a religious belief that by visiting and worshiping here, the sufferings of the devotees are removed and happiness and prosperity comes in life. Every year lakhs of devotees reach here to have darshan of Lord Shiva. Now Somnath Amrit Parv 2026 is going to add a new chapter to the glory of this historical temple.
