What does science say?
According to research, despite having only 2% iron in these remains, extraordinary magnetic properties have been found in them. It is said to contain about 80% barium in its composition, which makes it different from normal stones.
belief of floating in air
The story of Somnath Shivalinga floating in the air has been a part of folklore and beliefs. However, no concrete evidence regarding this has emerged at the scientific level in any research.
What does history say?
According to history, in 1026 AD, Mahmud Ghaznavi attacked the Somnath temple and damaged the Jyotirlinga. At that time the sages of South India preserved its pieces. These pieces were converted into 11 small Shivalingas. They continued to be worshiped secretly for about 1000 years. In 1924, Shankaracharya of Kanchi had predicted that after the construction of the new temple, it would be handed over to a saint named Shankar. It is said that as per this tradition, these remains were handed over to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in January 2024.
Recognition of Somnath Shivalinga
Shivalinga installed in Somnath temple is considered very sacred and powerful in Hindu religion. It is believed that when Chandradev (Soma) was cursed and his glory started waning, he performed rigorous penance for Lord Shiva. Pleased with his devotion, Shiva freed him from the curse. For this reason this place was named Somnath. Somnath is considered to be the first and most ancient of all the Jyotirlingas. It is said that Lord Shiva himself appeared here in the form of light, hence its spiritual energy is considered very strong.
