While the government continues to impose new pollution norms across the country. Many automakers are forced to kill off their reliable and fun-to-drive diesels. But hear me out, the enthusiast market is very far from dead. Supporting this statement is the tremendous response to the recently launched Skoda Kodiaq RS, which sold out in just 6 minutes. And the automaker does not seem to stop there. Skoda could be planning to introduce the Kodiaq Diesel in the coming times. Here is everything you need to know about the Skoda Kodiaq Diesel.
Looks-

Ever since its launch in 2017, the Kodiaq’s Coupe-SUV silhouette has remained unchanged. And with the Kodaiq Diesel, it is to be the same. Last year, Skoda introduced a major facelift based on the MQB EVO Platform, which added space to the third row. Overall, the design is expected to remain identical to that of the other Kodiaqs currently on sale. Featuring an upright front end with slim LED running lights within the grille, slight revisions to the bumpers could be expected. In profile, the Kodiaq has a long wheelbase to accommodate three rows. At the rear, the Kodiaq features C-shaped LED taillights that are connected not to the LEDs but to the LED trim. What about the features?
Interiors & Features-

Inside the cabin, the Kodiaq offers a touch of luxury alongside the practical 3-row seating. With the Kodiaq Diesel, Skoda is also expected to offer the dual-screen setup, featuring a 12.9-inch infotainment screen and a 10-inch driver’s display. Other features include a digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, level 2 ADAS, wireless charging and much more. And not to forget some simply clever features like the door-edge protectors, an indoor umbrella, an infotainment screen cleaner, a washer fluid funnel cap, a reversible boot mat, and a parking ticket clip, adding up to the day-to-day convenience. Now, coming to the major change-
Powertrain-

In 2022, Skoda replaced the 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine with the 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit. But Skoda could bring the 2.0-litre diesel engine back to India. This engine is expected to deliver about 193bhp and 400Nm torque, paired with the 7-speed DSG gearbox. Alongside the Diesel Skoda is also expected to offer an AWD configuration.
Rivals-
With the Kodiaq Diesel, Skoda would be trying to compete with the segment leader, the Toyota Fortuner. Other rivals will be the recently launched MG Majestor. Currently, the Kodiaq misses the diesel powertrain option. But once launched with the Diesel engine, the Kodiaq could be an alternative for a potential Fortuner owner to consider, for those looking for a premium cabin feel, great performance, and some clever features.
Expected Launch & Pricing-
Skoda has already showcased the Superb Diesel at the Bharat Mobility Expo. Which automaker is looking ahead to launch a diesel-powered vehicle in India in the coming years? That said, we can expect the Kodiaq to launch by early 2027. Currently, the Kodiaq costs between Rs 44.27 lakh and Rs 56.08 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). With the introduction of a diesel powertrain, we could see a price hike of around Rs 1 lakh. At that price, it is expected to perform well against its more expensive rivals. Would you consider the Kodaiq Diesel over a Fortuner?
