Tata EV To Get 4X4 – Confirmed?

Initially, industry reports suggested that the Safari EV was set to debut this Diwali (late October – early November). However, Tata has other plans. As per our sources, the Safari EV is still quite some time away. Tata will first test the waters with the Sierra EV. Tata will analyse market demands and plan the Safari EV launch accordingly. It tried out a similiar strategy with the Sierra EV as well. Tata took its sweet time to launch the Sierra EV and worked on the ideal launch date after assessing how the Harrier EV performed.
The Mahindra XEV9S is a clear indicator that 7-seater SUVs are popular, and the Safari can be Tata’s answer to it. The Safari EV is currently under development, and its launch could take place in the first half of 2026.
What To Expect?

The Safari EV would share the + platform with the and . The 65kWh and 75kWh battery packs from the Harrier ev would be on offer with the Safari ev. But to accommodate the greater body weight, Tata could also introduce a bigger battery pack with the Safari.ev.
In the feature department, it would share the equipment list with the . 540-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, electric tailgate, 14.53-inch infotainment screen, Level-2+ ADAS, and much more.
Tata EV To Get 4X4 – Key Details

The big news with the Safari EV will be the AWD drivetrain. Due to incompatibilities with the OmegaArc platform, the ICE version of the Safari does not get the privilege of AWD. Since Tata offers QWD (Tata’s name for AWD) on the electric versions of the Sierra and Harrier, it is implied that the Safari EV would benefit as well.
The EV getting AWD would be an ode to the original Safari, Safari Storm and Safari Dicor. While it may not be a true 4WD drivetrain, Tata’s QWD also possesses decent off-road capability (as demonstrated by the on the Tal Moreeb dunes).
