Pharmacist Viral Video: The issue of low starting salary in the healthcare sector in India is once again in discussion. This time the reason was Instagram creator Asha, who shared her experience of interviewing for a job as a pharmacist in a hospital. He claims that he was offered a monthly salary of Rs 12,000 to Rs 14,000 for 10 hours of duty. After the video went viral, questions started being raised on social media as to why youth with professional degrees are being paid such low salaries.
A conversation before the interview raised hopes
Asha told in her video that on reaching the hospital, she met a woman doing cleaning work there. During the conversation, when they asked about his monthly salary, the answer was that he gets Rs 16,000 per month. Hearing this, Asha felt that the starting salary for a specialized job like Pharmacist would be higher, around Rs 18,000 to Rs 20,000. But the information received during the interview surprised him.

HR told how much is the package for freshers
As expected, the first thing HR asked was if they had pharmacy experience. She clearly said that she is a fresher in pharmacy, although she has four years of experience in the healthcare sector. After this the HR told that the hospital generally does not hire freshers. Even if a fresher is hired, the starting salary ranges between Rs 12,000 to Rs 14,000. It was also said that depending on the performance of the employee, it will be decided how much salary he will get out of Rs 12,000, Rs 13,000 or Rs 14,000. This video, posted on July 19, reached millions of people within no time. Many people in the comment section supported Asha’s point and said that healthcare professionals should be paid as per their qualifications. However, some users also said that it is not right to directly compare the salary of a sweeper with that of a pharmacist. His argument was that it was possible that the employee might have been working in the same hospital for many years and her income had increased on the basis of experience. To this, Asha replied that her aim was not to compare any profession, but to draw attention to the very low starting salaries for trained and degree-holding youth.

Doctor and dentist also shared their experiences
Many healthcare professionals also mentioned their starting salaries below the viral video. A doctor wrote that his first salary was only Rs 7,500. A dentist told that he got a monthly salary of Rs 10,000 at the beginning of his career. Some other users also claimed that despite 10 to 12 hours of duty in many private hospitals, the starting salary remains between Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000.
