Salman Khan Given Four Weeks to Respond in Kala Hiran Film Controversy

The  has granted actor Salman Khan four weeks to respond to a petition filed by the producer of the film ‘Kala Hiran.’ The producer seeks a directive for Khan to withdraw a lawsuit aimed at halting the film’s release, arguing that the Delhi court lacks jurisdiction over the matter.

The court has mandated Khan to provide a response within this timeframe, with the next hearing scheduled for December 16.

The controversy erupted following the release of the film’s poster and teaser. Khan alleges that a character in the film bears a striking resemblance to him, even wearing a bracelet famously associated with the actor. He claims this portrayal connects to his identity and that the film uses his personality without permission.

The teaser also references the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, a legal issue Khan has been connected to for years. In court, Khan argued that the film incorporates elements of his life controversies as part of its narrative, which he believes is being exploited for promotional purposes. He expressed concern that this could damage his reputation and infringe upon his personality rights.

In response, the film’s director, Bharat S. Shrinath, stated that the film is not about Salman Khan. The character is fictional, named ‘Ayan Khan,’ and the director emphasized that the bracelet is not exclusive to Khan. Furthermore, he clarified that no prosthetic makeup was used to make the character resemble the actor.

On July 27, the  Court had previously issued an interim order to remove online links to the film’s teaser and related promotional materials in response to Khan’s objections.
