Toyota Fortuner Leader Edition Launched At Rs. 36.51 Lakh: What You Get For The Rs. 1.11 Lakh Premium

Toyota has launched the 2026 Fortuner Leader Edition at Rs 36.51 lakh for the 4×2 diesel manual and Rs 38.72 lakh for the 4×2 diesel automatic. Both versions cost exactly Rs 1.11 lakh more than the equivalent regular Fortuner diesel 4×2 variants, which are priced at Rs 35.40 lakh and Rs 37.61 lakh respectively.

For that extra money, Toyota has not changed the engine, gearbox, suspension or drivetrain. The Leader Edition is essentially a styling and equipment package aimed at buyers who want the regular Fortuner to look more distinctive without stepping up to the more expensive Legender. Bookings open on October 12th.

What The Rs 1.11 Lakh Adds Outside

The Leader Edition gets a redesigned front grille, gloss-black alloy wheels with matching hub caps and a black roof treatment. Toyota has also added black rear-door garnish, a black-finished antenna, body-side mouldings and an edition-specific bonnet emblem.

The contrast treatment is available with Super White, Platinum White Pearl and Attitude Black exterior colours. These are visual changes rather than structural ones. Dimensions remain those of the standard Fortuner, which measures 4,795mm long, 1,855mm wide and 1,835mm tall, with a 2,745mm wheelbase and 225mm ground clearance.

The Leader Edition is also restricted to the 4×2 diesel drivetrain. There is no 4×4 Leader Edition in the announced range.

The Cabin Gets More Than Cosmetic Changes

Inside, Toyota has switched to dual-tone black and maroon seat upholstery with matching black-maroon door trims. It also adds ambient lighting and illuminated scuff plates. More useful are the auto-folding outside mirrors and tyre-pressure monitoring system. These are small additions, but they are the sort of everyday convenience features that buyers expect at this price.

The rest of the core cabin, seating layout and mechanical package remain familiar Fortuner territory. It continues as a seven-seat body-on-frame SUV rather than receiving any major dashboard or infotainment redesign with this edition.

Same 2.8 Diesel And Same Rear-Wheel Drive Layout

Both Leader Edition variants use Toyota’s 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. The regular Fortuner specification produces 201 Bhp-420 Nm on the manual, with torque reaching up to 500 Nm on the automatic.

The manual uses a 6-speed gearbox, while the automatic gets a 6-speed torque-converter unit. Power goes to the rear wheels because both Leader Edition versions are 4×2.

That means buyers interested in the Fortuner primarily for four-wheel-drive capability still need to choose a regular 4×4 variant or move further up the range.

Toyota continues to offer a 3-year/1,00,000km standard warranty, extendable to 5 years/2,20,000km. The ownership package also includes five years of roadside assistance, while finance options can stretch to seven years.

Is The Premium Reasonable?

A Rs 1.11 lakh premium is not small for a package that leaves the mechanicals untouched. Most of the extra value is in the blacked-out exterior treatment, revised upholstery, ambient lighting, TPMS and auto-folding mirrors.

For a buyer already planning aftermarket wheels, black trim, interior upholstery and TPMS, the factory package may make sense because everything comes fitted and covered through the Toyota network. For someone who does not care about the visual changes, the regular 4×2 diesel is mechanically the same car and saves Rs 1.11 lakh.
