Filmmaker Rohit Shetty has announced that the fifth instalment of his popular Golmaal franchise will hit theatres on January 8, 2027, promising audiences another dose of laughter, fun and family entertainment.
Rohit shared the release announcement on Instagram along with a vibrant poster featuring Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Kemmu riding the franchise’s iconic stretched-out motorcycle.
“Laughter, fun, joy, happiness and family… bas, nothing else,” Rohit wrote while announcing the release date.
Production on Golmaal 5 began in March this year, with an ensemble cast that includes Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Kemmu and Sharman Joshi. The film went on the floors on Rohit Shetty’s 52nd birthday.
At the time, Rohit reflected on the franchise’s two-decade journey, recalling that the first Golmaal released 20 years ago and played a significant role in shaping his career. He credited the audience for supporting the franchise through the years and said he and his team were once again embarking on a journey to entertain them.
The Golmaal franchise began in 2006 with Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, starring Ajay Devgn, Tusshar Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Sharman Joshi, Rimi Sen and Paresh Rawal.
The film was reportedly based on Harsh Shivsharan’s Marathi play Ghar Ghar, which also inspired Vora’s Gujarati play Aflatoon, among the inspirations for the film.
The franchise was followed by Golmaal Returns in 2008, Golmaal 3 in 2010 and Golmaal Again in 2017.
Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Sanjay Mishra, Vrajesh Hirjee and Mukesh Tiwari have featured across the franchise, while Shreyas Talpade appeared in three films, and Kunal Kemmu and Johnny Lever in two each. Akshay Kumar is joining the cast for the fifth instalment.
With Golmaal 5, Shetty is bringing the franchise back to theatres after nearly a decade, with the film scheduled to release on January 8, 2027.
