The Eighth Pay Commission constituted for central employees has come into action mode. Different employee organizations are making demands from the Pay Commission. In this series, All India NPS Employees Federation (AINPSEF) has also given a demand list.
It said that all central government employees who are subscribers of the National Pension System (NPS) should get the option to switch to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). Apart from this, the retirement age of central government teachers should be increased from 60 years to 65 years.
The organization said that all orders issued by the Central Government for its employees as well as employees of Union Territories (UTs) and Central Government Autonomous Bodies (CABs) should also be included. Apart from these three demands, the employee organization also stuck to its earlier main demands. Let us tell you that the employees’ organization has demanded a fitment factor of 3.833, a minimum basic pay of Rs 69,000 and an annual salary increase of 6%-7% for all central government employees.
What is the reason for demand?
Manjit Singh Patel, president of All India NPS Employees Federation, told ET Wealth that we want the Pay Commission to give central government NPS subscribers the option to go to OPS after completing a few years of service. According to Patel, the first demand of All India NPS Employees Federation was to abolish NPS, on which the 8th Pay Commission did not agree.
Patel explains that the reason for suggesting such an option is that NPS is market linked and if the market remains down for a long time at the time of an employee’s retirement, they will have no other option but to take a lower pension. Patel has demanded that for employees who switch from NPS to the old pension scheme at the time of retirement, it is suggested that half of their last salary, along with dearness allowance (DA), be given as pension.
raising the retirement age
A demand has been made from the Pay Commission that the retirement age of Central Government teachers should be increased from 60 years to 65 years. It also includes teachers who are from Union Territories (UTs) and Central Government Autonomous Bodies (CABs). This change will be based on the pattern of teachers selected through the University Grant Commission (UGC).
Patel said that our proposal was that if UGC teachers can work till the age of 65, then why can’t central government teachers be allowed to work till 65 years? AINPSEF has also proposed a uniform leave policy for all central government employees.
