A user named Dishaka has posted this video on Instagram. In the video, the girl told that initially her landlord told her that she would have to vacate the house because her brother was coming to live in the city. However, he soon realized that there was something else going on and it might have something to do with the rising rents in the area.

“My landlord lied to me. He suddenly decided to increase my rent by Rs 4,000 a month and said that his brother is coming to the city and has to stay in my apartment,” she said in the clip.

He further told that the landlord owns the entire building, so this excuse seemed strange to him. She said, “The building I live in is entirely his, yet he wanted only me to vacate the house.” Dishaka said that upon further discussion, the landlord himself admitted that the rent for a one-bedroom apartment in that area has now gone up to ₹26,000 to ₹28,000 per month.

She added, “I just wanted to know if this is happening only to me or is it a common thing in Bengaluru. I knew that landlords are very troublesome and money-grabbing, but now I have to pay Rs 4,000 more every month, which is too much.”
