Ahmedabad: RCB captain Rajat Patidar, who became the champion of the 19th season of IPL, has dedicated his victory to the 11 fans who died in the stampede last year. When RCB won the trophy for the first time last year, a celebration was organized in Bengaluru the next day i.e. on June 4. Meanwhile, 11 people lost their lives in a terrible stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium. After winning the IPL trophy for the second consecutive time, Rajat Patidar expressed the pain of last year.
Rajat said in the press conference after the match on Sunday, ‘The death of the fans amidst the joy of winning the cup was really a very bad incident. They weren’t just fans, they were our family. I will always dedicate this trophy to him. I have no words to express the pain of that incident.
Let us tell you that in the memory of the killed fans, 11 seats were left vacant in the Chinnaswamy Stadium at the beginning of this IPL season. Also, RCB players participated in the practice camp wearing the number 11 jersey.
We didn’t just play, we dominated: Rajat
RCB captain Rajat Patidar said, ‘This year we not only played, we dominated the entire tournament.’ Amidst the joy of winning the cup, in a virtual conversation with the media on Monday, he said, ‘We already knew that if we play well, we can win the cup for the second time also. This has been possible only due to the combined efforts of the team. This time we not only played, but ruled.
Apart from this, Rajat also talked openly about the contribution of all the players behind the cup win, the support of Virat Kohli for his captaincy and the game of Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Head coach Andy Flower and team director Mo Bobt also participated in this conversation.
This time RCB’s celebration will not take place in Bengaluru!
Ahmedabad: In view of the death of 11 people in the stampede during last year’s celebrations, the franchise has decided not to hold any victory parade in Bengaluru this time. Last year, a hastily organized victory procession at the Assembly and Chinnaswamy Stadium had led to a stampede. There was a lot of anger expressed over this incident and the franchise even had to face legal action. Therefore, RCB has decided not to repeat the old mistake. Sources associated with RCB said, ‘There is little possibility of celebration in Bengaluru. Some guidelines are in place and we have to follow them.
DK Shivkumar’s swearing in is also a reason
D.K. in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Shivkumar will take oath as Chief Minister. The venue of the event, Lok Bhavan, is very close to the Chinnaswamy Stadium. In such a situation, if RCB had taken out a victory parade, handling the traffic and crowd would have become a big challenge for the police. It is being said that RCB has taken this decision to avoid two big events simultaneously.
