Congress MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy attacks BRS chief KCR at Medigadda Barrage. He accused KCR of doing politics in the name of farmers and putting people’s lives at risk. The government said that water will not be filled in the barrage without permission.
Hyderabad (Telangana) [भारत]July 6 (ANI): Congress MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy on Monday met Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president K. Launched a scathing attack on Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR). He accused KCR of doing politics on a matter related to public safety. The Congress leader alleged that former Chief Minister KCR was trying to prove himself as the champion of the farmers’ issue in Telangana.
Speaking to ANI on KTR visiting Kannepalli pump house and demanding release of water, Reddy said, “This act of KCR is foolish and careless. He has no concern for the lives of the people of Telangana. If anything happens to the barrage, the devastation that would happen is unimaginable. Political leaders should be responsible and act responsibly in all matters. They should not do politics, especially on such sensitive issues.”
Congress’s sharp attack on KCR
Referring to the condition of the Madigadda barrage of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, the Congress MLA said it has serious structural concerns and cited the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) report. “It is a fact that the Medigadda barrage has problems. It has sunk by 3-4 metres, and the NDSA report clearly states that it is unsafe to fill it with water,” he said.
Reddy alleged that KCR was trying to take political advantage of the issue. “He is trying to divert politics and show himself as being in favor of the farmers of Telangana, which he is not,” he said.
The Congress leader stressed that the state government will not allow water to be stored in the barrage until it gets clearance from the competent authorities. “The government is very specific and clear on this issue. Unless the Center or the technical authority says the barrage can be filled, we are not going to fill it,” he said.
Telangana politics heats up on Medigadda
The comments come amid the ongoing political tussle between the ruling Congress and BRS over the safety and future of the Medigadda Barrage, a key component of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. Concerns have been raised over its structural integrity. The political temperature in Telangana rose further today when Congress launched a scathing attack on both BJP and BRS. The Congress accused BJP MPs of failing to protect the interests of Telangana, and also alleged that the flagship Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project of the previous BRS government has become a symbol of financial mismanagement and administrative failure.
KTR warned to surround the pump house
Meanwhile, on Sunday, amid the impending water crisis, BRS working president KT Rama Rao warned that the party would gherao the Kannepalli pump house with “50,000 to 60,000 people” if the Telangana government continues to ignore the interests of farmers and fails to utilize the available Godavari water. Leading a BRS delegation to inspect the Kannepalli pump house in Bhoolapalli district, KTR accused the state government of failing to operate the pumping infrastructure to provide irrigation benefits to farmers.
