PM Modi in Sweden: Amidst the changing diplomatic picture of the world, India’s global power seems to be continuously increasing. The latest example of this was seen when Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plane entered the border of Sweden and the state-of-the-art Gripen fighter jets of the Air Force there gave special air escort to his plane. This scene was not just a part of the security protocol, but is also considered a big message of the strengthening relations between India and Sweden. Prime Minister Modi has reached Gothenburg on a two-day visit on 17th and 18th May. This visit is taking place on the invitation of Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Christerson.
Gripen fighter jets welcomed
As soon as Prime Minister Modi’s plane entered Sweden’s airspace, Saab JAS 39 Gripen fighter planes of the Swedish Air Force started escorting it. This scene seen in the sky is considered quite attractive and symbolic. According to diplomatic experts, escorting the aircraft of a head of state or prime minister by fighter jets is considered a sign of respect and strategic partnership. In recent years, many countries have adopted similar special protocols to welcome Prime Minister Modi.

Focus will be on India-Sweden relations
During Prime Minister Modi’s visit, issues like trade, green energy, defense technology, innovation and digital cooperation are likely to be discussed between the two countries. Strategic and economic relations between India and Sweden have steadily strengthened over the years. Cooperation between the two countries is increasing rapidly, especially in the defense and technology sectors. Swedish company Saab AB has already been active in India’s defense sector and there have been discussions from time to time about Gripen fighter jets.
