Story of Parama Ekadashi
According to the mythological story, in ancient times, a Brahmin named Sumedha used to live in Kampilya city. He used to do religious activities with his wife. Sumedha’s wife used to fast and worship regularly. She used to respect all the guests who came to her house. She herself might have been hungry, but she would not allow the guests to return without eating. Despite all the religious activities, Sumedha and his wife were living in poverty.
One day Sumedha talked to his wife about going abroad and earning money. On this the Brahmin’s wife said that a person gets results according to his destiny and deeds of his previous birth. Even if God has given us a life full of poverty and destitution, we should still do our work here, because whatever God wants will happen. Hearing these words of his wife, Sumedha did not go abroad. Stayed there and started working. One day sage Kaundinya came to his house.
Then Sumedha and his wife served him. Sage Kaundinya was very pleased with the service of husband and wife. Then the husband and wife wanted to know from sage Kaundinya the solution to get rid of their poverty. Then Kaundinya Rishi advised both of them to observe fast on Parama Ekadashi of Adhikamas. He told the method of Parama Ekadashi fast and worship. After this, when Parma Ekadashi of Adhikamas came, both of them observed a fast as per the advice of sage Kaundinya and worshiped Shri Hari Vishnu.
After this, fed food to the Brahmins. Then donated and after that broke the fast. By observing this fast the poverty of Sumedha and her family was eliminated. Happiness, wealth, prosperity etc. came into his life. In the end, by the grace of Hari, he attained salvation.
