In Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh, a groom’s wishes of riding a mare were dashed when the rumor of ‘third marriage’ spread by a wedding procession after the arrival of the wedding procession created an uproar.
As soon as this rumor reached the ears of the girl’s side, their temper reached sky high. The dispute escalated so much that the bride’s side stopped the wedding rituals midway and the wedding procession returned empty handed without the bride. The surprising thing is that the official marriage of the bride and groom had already been solemnized under the Chief Minister Group Marriage Scheme.
The whole matter is of Pothiya village of Lalpura police station area of the district. Santosh Prajapati, a resident of this place, had fixed the marriage of his daughter with Arvind, son of Dayaram Prajapati, a resident of Maudaha town. On March 18, the marriage of both of them was solemnized with government rituals in the ‘Chief Minister’s mass marriage ceremony’. However, the girl’s father wanted his daughter’s wedding procession to come to his village in a traditional manner and bid farewell to his beloved with pomp and show. To fulfill this wish, the groom Arvind had reached Pothiya village with a procession accompanied by musical instruments.
A rumor and public uproar
The procession reached the village and was staying in Janavase. The groom and the groom were enjoying tea and breakfast together. On the other hand, the bride and groom were taking 7 rounds after the garland. Then, amid the laughter and joking, a wedding guest suddenly spread the rumor that this was the third marriage of the groom Arvind. This news spread like wildfire and within no time there was a stir in the girl’s house. The people from the bride’s side became angry and started creating ruckus, questioning the groom’s character. The bride stopped taking rounds and called off the marriage.
Former minister’s advice also proved ineffective
The dispute escalated so much that both the parties came face to face. Former minister Shiv Charan, who was present at the spot, tried to handle the situation. He tried to resolve the matter through talks by making both the parties sit together and tried hard to convince the girl’s family, but things did not work out. The bride’s family accused the wedding guests of indecency and asked them to leave. Ultimately the groom and his relatives were humiliated and had to return without the bride.
groom’s father’s counterattack
The groom’s father Dayaram has a different stand on this entire matter. Making serious allegations against the girl’s family, he said that his son had only one marriage before, which was duly divorced. According to Dayaram, the girl’s family already knew this, and on the basis of this information both of them were married in the Chief Minister’s mass marriage ceremony.
The groom’s father alleged that when they reached the village, during the ‘Dwarchar’ and ‘Oli’ rituals, the girl’s side suddenly started demanding Rs 1 lakh. When he expressed his inability, he was falsely accused of ‘third marriage’ for not paying the money. They pleaded a lot, but the bride’s side remained adamant on their demand and in the end the wedding procession was sent back without farewell. At present, this case has become a topic of discussion in the entire area as to how a small rumor or greed created a rift in the relationship between two families.
