Delhi Tunnel Project: The central government has approved two big road projects worth Rs 14,115 crore. Construction of 6-lane tunnel from Dwarka Expressway to South Delhi in Delhi and Kanpur-Kabarai Greenfield Highway in UP will reduce travel time and will also boost employment and investment.
The Central Government has taken a big step towards giving new impetus to the road connectivity of the country. The Union Cabinet has approved two important road projects costing about Rs 14,115 crore. These include a 6-lane tunnel connecting the Dwarka Expressway in Delhi to South Delhi and a 117.7-km greenfield highway from Kanpur to Kabrai in Uttar Pradesh. The government believes that these projects will reduce travel time, improve logistics and create employment as well as new investment opportunities.
6-lane tunnel will be built in Delhi, travel to airport and South Delhi will be easy
According to the government, the 8.1 km long six-lane tunnel will connect Dwarka Expressway to Nelson Mandela Marg. This will enable seamless movement between Dwarka, IGI Airport, Vasant Kunj and South Delhi. This project will also be further connected to AIIMS Mahipalpur Elevated Corridor, which will ease access to Noida, Ghaziabad and East Delhi.
The government is expected to generate approximately 7.54 lakh direct and 9.8 lakh indirect man-days of employment during the construction of this project costing around Rs 6,969.67 crore. Real estate experts believe that due to better connectivity, Dwarka and surrounding areas may see an increase in demand and prices of residential and commercial properties.
Bundelkhand will get new momentum from Kanpur-Kabarai Highway
The second big project is for Uttar Pradesh. About Rs 7,145.14 crore will be spent on the 117.7 km long Kanpur-Kabarai Access Controlled Greenfield Highway. This highway will be part of the Bhopal-Kanpur Economic Corridor and will be connected to National Highway-34, National Highway-35, Bundelkhand Expressway and Kanpur Ring Road. After the commissioning of this highway, the journey from Kanpur to Kabrai, which currently takes about three and a half hours, will reduce to about 90 minutes. This is likely to directly benefit industries, mining, agriculture and logistics sectors.
Not just a road, a new path for investment and employment
Experts say such infrastructure projects not only make travel easier, but also boost the economy of the entire region. Better road network is likely to increase investment in industry, warehousing, logistics, retail and hospitality sectors.
This tunnel can help in reducing traffic pressure and better connecting major business centers in Delhi-NCR. Whereas in Uttar Pradesh, Kanpur-Kabarai Highway has the potential to give a new direction to the economic development of the region by connecting Bundelkhand with big industrial markets.
The government aims to develop a fast, safe and modern road network in the country through these projects, thereby strengthening business, employment and regional development in the long run.
