According to a report in Hindustan Times, Ranveer Singh has sent a legal notice to the Film Federation of Western Cine Employees i.e. FWICE on Tuesday. This step has been taken after the non-cooperation directive which the organization issued last week. At present it is not clear what demand the actor has made in the notice, but now FWICE may have to answer it.
What is the whole ‘Don 3’ controversy?
The controversy started when ‘Don 3’ director and producer Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani told FWICE that around Rs 45 crore has been spent on the pre-production of the film. The FWICE notice said, “Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani informed that approximately Rs 45 crore has been spent on the pre-production of the film. In such a situation, a big actor suddenly leaving the film in the advanced stage of the project can cause huge financial loss to the producer and can have a negative impact on the execution of the film.”
Why did FWICE issue non-cooperation order?
FWICE President Ashok Pandit had claimed in the press conference that the organization sent several notices to Ranveer Singh, but no response was received. He had said, “None of our members or workers should work on any project of Ranveer Singh. We have also appealed to all the producers to show solidarity and take a clear stand on this issue.” However, later he also clarified that it would not be completely correct to call it a “ban”, rather it is a non-cooperation instruction.
Can FWICE ban any artist?
According to legal experts, FWICE does not have the right to officially ban any actor or film personality. In 2017, the Competition Commission of India (CCI), while hearing a case, had said that FWICE cannot force a manufacturer to work only with its members. The Commission considered this to be against competition law and directed the organization to desist from such activities.

A few hours after the FWICE directive, Ranveer Singh’s official issued a statement. “Ranveer Singh has the utmost respect for the film fraternity and everyone associated with the Don franchise.
