New feature of CBDT! Now you can see details of foreign assets and income on AIS. Cbdt Launches New Facility To View Foreign Assets Income On Ais Portal

CBDT has launched a new facility on the e-filing portal for taxpayers. Now they can see information about their foreign assets and income in the Annual Information Statement (AIS). This data has been collected from more than 100 countries and its purpose is to simplify tax compliance.

New Delhi [भारत]July 16, (ANI): The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has launched a new facility that will allow taxpayers to check information about their foreign assets and income directly on the Income Tax e-filing portal through the Annual Information Statement (AIS). The move is aimed at making compliance easier rather than triggering investigations.

Data comes from more than 100 countries

Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) sources told ANI that the data comes from over 100 partner countries that share financial account details with India every year under international information-exchange agreements. This may include foreign bank accounts, custodial holdings, investments and related income such as interest and dividends. Currently, the AIS shows data for calendar years 2022 to 2024, and data for 2025 is expected by September or October 2026, when it will be received from partner countries.

Taxpayers will remain responsible

CBDT sources stressed that the AIS listing is not a complete record of a taxpayer’s foreign holdings, and the onus remains on individuals to make full and accurate declarations of all their foreign assets and income in Schedule FA and Schedule FSI of their tax returns, irrespective of what appears in the AIS.

How to view foreign property information?

To access the information, taxpayers can log in to their e-filing account, go to the AIS section, navigate to the “Reports” tab of the Compliance Portal, select “Foreign Assets Information”, and download a PDF for the relevant year. This data is only visible to the account holder through their own secure login.

Facility of alert and AI assistant also

CBDT sources said SMS and email alerts are being sent to taxpayers, reminding them to provide correct information about foreign assets while filing returns for assessment year 2026-27. The department is also promoting “Kar Saathi”, an AI-based assistant on the e-filing portal, to help taxpayers choose the right return form and navigate foreign asset reporting. This initiative is part of CBDT’s broader effort towards technology-driven, non-intrusive taxpayer services, aimed at reducing filing mistakes and improving transparency. (ANI)
