Anand Raaj Anand on composing songs for Govinda
Speaking exclusively to us, Anand Raaj Anand was asked how Govinda’s personality and dancing influenced the way he created songs for him. “Whenever I composed for would first visualise him. I would almost become Govinda in my mind before writing and composing. The moment I felt that current or those goosebumps, I would immediately record that tune as a memory. Later, during recording, we would expand it into a full song,” he said.

Continuing the conversation, the musician reveals what he misses about 90s and early 2000s music era of Bollywood. He also shared what lacks in today’s music. “Music is created in two ways—either in solitude or in celebration. Creativity is actually a very anti-social activity. You can’t truly create while sitting among fifteen people. You need isolation. But when you’re making celebration songs or dance numbers, you need your team around you—the producer, director, writers, musicians, everyone,” added Anand.
The veteran music composer stated that there used to be gatherings during his time. From writers and producers to directors, everyone would sit together over hot cups of tea and contribue their ideas. That’s how songs were born earlier, he revealed.
Anand Raaj Anand on how Jalebi Bai was created
Continuiong the conversation, revealed how Jalebi Bai was created for Indra Kumar’s Double Dhamaal. “We had gone for lunch with Indra Kumar ji. He ordered dessert and casually said, “Jalebi hai bhai.” That phrase stayed in my mind and became the song. Today, people sit alone in a room because creativity has become isolated. How will a song like Jalebi Bai come out in complete isolation?,” he shared.
According to him, great ideas emerge from conversations and those conversations eventually become timeless songs. Do you agree with Anand Raaj Anand? Tweet @TimesNow and share your thoughts on X.
