‘Never love work’, why did the boy who was kept in the office till midnight on notice period say this? | Gen Z Employee Slams Toxic Work Culture After Working Till 1 Am On Notice Period

A Gen Z employee shared her experience of notice period abuse on Reddit. The company made him work till late night but did not give him overtime. From this experience he learned not to fall out of love with work and never to become irreplaceable.

It is often said that love your work, not the company. Because you never know when the company will throw you out like a fly in milk. Now one such story is going viral on Reddit. A Gen Z boy told how he was rubbed badly during his notice period.

The boy told in his post that at the end of the month he had to handle some important tasks alone because he had no backup. The management knew that only he could do this work (key-man risk), yet they did not make any other arrangements. When he worked late at night, the company refused to give him overtime. The argument given was that no one had asked him to stay late. On this the boy raised the question, ‘Then who gave me so much work?’

She learned two big lessons from this bad experience, which she also shared: ‘Never become so important in the office that you are irreplaceable – this is the first lesson.’ And ‘Never fall out of love with your work – that’s another lesson.’

The boy also admitted that he did not get as much recognition for his work in the company as he should have. However, she is grateful for the mentorship and opportunities she received earlier. He also wrote that the people working with him do not take these problems seriously and take them lightly. Many people commented on his post. Most people said that this kind of exploitation should not be tolerated. Many users also shared similar bad experiences with them.
