This time lakhs of students from across the country and abroad had participated in the NEET UG 2026 examination. If statistics are to be believed, around 20 lakh candidates participated in this great battle. The exam was conducted on June 21 at 5,440 examination centers in 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad. This time a total of 11.21 lakh candidates have qualified for admission in Undergraduate Medical (MBBS), Dental (BDS), AYUSH and other related courses. The most pleasant and surprising aspect of this year’s results was the excellent performance of women. The share of women among the total qualified candidates has been more than 58 percent. The result of the dedication with which the girl students prepared to enter the field of medicine is visible to everyone today. The passing percentage of girls was much better than that of men, which proved that the daughters of the country are now fully prepared to conquer every difficult examination.
Same war of two faces: warriors of Punjab and Haryana raised flags

This time the number of students scoring high in the result was also notable.
- 19 candidates scored more than 700 marks.
- 1,492 students scored 650 or more.
- 10,160 candidates reached more than 600 marks.
- 90,780 candidates scored 500 or more marks.
- These figures show that this year the competition was tougher than ever before.
Top scorers created a stir, 138 students crossed the mark of 690 marks
This year’s result was special in many ways. 138 candidates proved their excellent preparation by scoring more than 690 marks out of 720. The most interesting fact among these was that more than 93 percent of the top scorers are students appearing for the NEET exam for the first time. At the same time, the age of almost 99 percent of the candidates was between 17 to 19 years. The highest score was 715 marks, which was jointly achieved by Aryan Gupta of Punjab and Panshul Bansal of Haryana.

Uttar Pradesh became the ‘King of Qualifiers’ while Lakshadweep also showed its strength.
Students from all 36 states and union territories of the country have tasted success in this examination. But when it comes to figures, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the biggest winner. Maximum number of more than 1.7 lakh students have qualified the exam from UP. On the other hand, 43 candidates from Lakshadweep, which has a very low population, successfully registered their presence. Along with this, toppers from remote areas have also attracted the attention of the country:
- Jigmet Yangchan Lamo (Ladakh)-530 points
- Dhruv Tripathi (Andaman and Nicobar Islands)-606 points
- Fahmida Anees (Lakshadweep)-573 points
Category equation: How many candidates won from which category?
As per the official data released by NTA, the number of successful candidates from different sections is as follows:
- OBC-NCL: 5.12 lakh
- General: 2.91 lakh
- SC: 1.59 lakh
- Gen-EWS: 95,026
- ST: 63,716
- PwBD: 3,666
- PWD: 303
Now what next? The real fight for counseling and seats begins
After the announcement of results, now the real suspense will start regarding getting seats in medical colleges. The counseling process for admission in government and private medical colleges across the country is going to start soon:
- All India Quota (AIQ – 15% seats): The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) will handle the counseling under this. For this, students will soon be able to see the updates on the official website.
- State Quota (85% seats): The counseling authorities of the respective states will conduct counseling for the state quota seats as per their respective rules and cut-offs.
