Two people died after a truck fell into a 100 meter deep gorge in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand. In another incident, SDRF successfully rescued a youth who had fallen into a ditch on Kedarnath trek.
Rudraprayag (Uttarakhand) [भारत]July 17 (ANI): Two people died after a truck they were traveling in fell into a nearly 100-metre deep gorge on the Tarsali-Phata road in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, following which the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), district police and fire services launched a joint rescue operation, officials said.
According to the SDRF, the District Control Room (DCR) in Rudraprayag was informed late on Thursday night that a truck had skidded off the road and fallen into a deep gorge near Tarsali in the Phata area. Following the alert, an SDRF rescue team from Sonprayag led by Sub-Inspector Ashish Dimri was sent to the accident site with special rescue equipment. “Acting immediately on the alert, an SDRF rescue team led by Sub-Inspector Ashish Dimri from Sonprayag was sent to the spot with necessary rescue equipment,” the SDRF said in a statement.

At the spot, personnel from SDRF, NDRF, district police and fire services conducted a joint rescue operation. “Using rope rescue techniques, the SDRF team descended approximately 100 meters into the gorge and reached the crashed truck,” SDRF said. The rescue team found two unconscious persons near the vehicle and pulled them out of the ditch using a hard-board stretcher and handed over to the 108 ambulance service. “After medical examination, doctors declared both the persons dead,” SDRF said.
SDRF rescues young man who fell on Kedarnath trek
In a separate incident earlier this week, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) of Uttarakhand Police successfully rescued a youth who had fallen into a deep gorge on the Kedarnath trekking route, officials said. This incident happened near Chhodi, located about two kilometers ahead of Gaurikund. The District Emergency Operation Center (DEOC), Rudraprayag alerted the SDRF late on the night of 15 July and requested immediate rescue assistance for the person.
Following the information, an SDRF rescue team from Gaurikund post led by Team Commander Ashish Dimri reached the spot with special rescue equipment. The team coordinated with the local police, District Disaster Response Force (DDRF), and YMF personnel and launched an intensive search and rescue operation in the dark.
Despite extremely difficult terrain and challenging weather conditions, SDRF personnel managed to descend the steep slope to reach the injured youth in the ditch. He was taken out safely and brought back to Gaurikund. After being safely rescued and given first aid on the spot, the person was admitted to the hospital for further treatment. The rescued person has been identified as Mohit Rawat, a resident of Badasu village in Rampur area of Rudraprayag district.
The Kedarnath trek route is currently witnessing a huge rush of pilgrims, and the SDRF is deployed at various vulnerable points of the track to deal with such emergencies during the ongoing monsoon season. Uttarakhand Police has made multi-layered arrangements to ensure safety, smooth movement and well-organized management of pilgrims visiting the pilgrimage sites. (ANI)
