Amidst the crisis situation in Middle East Asia, the prices of goods are continuously increasing. The prices of petrol and diesel were increased for the second time in the last 5 days in the country. Due to increase in oil prices, other things are also being affected. Not only fuel, common people are also facing rising prices of gold, silver and milk along with many other essential commodities. Meanwhile, people have now faced another shock of inflation.
Morning breakfast was also included in this next installment of inflation. There has been a huge increase in the prices of bread and related products. The price of all types of bread in Mumbai has increased by Rs 5. These prices have been increased from May 16 itself. It is said about Mumbai that people here start their day with bread, pav and sandwiches etc. But now the people of Mumbai will have to pay more for morning breakfast.
Why did bread prices have to be increased?
Many reasons are being given for this sudden record-breaking increase in the prices of bread. According to a report, the main reason for the huge increase is the rising price of plastic raw material ‘plastic powder’ used in bread packaging. This plastic powder is imported on a large scale in India. At present, due to the continuous fall of the Indian rupee in the international market, the import of this raw material has become very expensive.
Also, due to the increase in the prices of petrol and diesel in the last few days, there has been a huge increase in the transportation cost. Due to increase in transportation costs and expensive preservatives used in bread, the production cost of bread manufacturers has increased significantly, which is now being reimbursed to the consumers.
How much does bread cost now in Mumbai?
The price of 400 grams of sandwich bread in Mumbai has now increased from Rs 40 to Rs 45. Similarly, whole wheat bread which was earlier available for Rs 55 will now be available for Rs 60. The price of multigrain bread has been increased to Rs 65 instead of Rs 60.
The price of small brown bread has increased from Rs 28 to Rs 30. While white bread which used to cost Rs 20 would be available for Rs 22 till now, the price of brown bread has been increased from Rs 45 to Rs 50.
Effect of increase in price of bread
There has been a huge increase of Rs 5 in the price of bread in Mumbai. Bread is sold the most in Mumbai. Especially the working class, daily office goers, laborers and students depend on and eat Vada Pav, Misal Pav, Vegetable Pav and Sandwich for breakfast every day. In such a situation, not only will the prices of these things increase, but the prices of all food items made from bread will also increase.
This price increase will have a direct impact on the common man’s pocket and his daily expenses will also increase. The increase of Rs 5 in bread products has been implemented on all types of sandwich bread, whole wheat and multigrain bread. In some areas the price of brown bread has increased from Rs 45 to Rs 50.
Bakers have also become worried due to rising prices. According to bakery owners, the cost of making bread has increased significantly due to plastic packaging costs, transportation costs, rising prices of imported raw materials and falling value of the rupee. The recent increase in milk prices has also put further pressure on food prices.
