2 Mumbai batsmen fell on consecutive ballsImage Credit source: PTI
Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals clashed in the 69th league match of IPL 2026, which was the last match of both of them. While there were a lot of ups and downs in the performance of both the teams in this match, something happened in the middle of the match which surprised. When Mumbai was batting in response to the target of 206 runs set by Rajasthan, two of its batsmen fell on the middle pitch on two consecutive balls of fast bowler Brijesh Sharma. But what happened that both the batsmen became like this?
In this match played at Wankhede Stadium, Rajasthan batted first and scored 205 runs. In response, Mumbai had a bad start and the team lost 4 wickets in the powerplay itself. The fourth wicket fell in the last over of the powerplay itself, when fast bowler Brijesh Sharma bowled Tilak Verma with an excellent ball. After this, Will Jacques entered as the new batsman and this is where all the drama happened.
Jacques hit a four on the third ball of this over. Then Brijesh applied too much force on the next ball. The ball slipped from his hand and a full toss came straight towards Jacques’ chest. Jacques somehow played the ball but in the process it hit his hand and he fell on the pitch. The umpire declared it a no-ball. But Jacques’ hand was hit hard by the ball and hence the physio examined him for some time.
When Jacques recovered, Suryakumar Yadav came on strike on the very next ball. Once again Brijesh could not control his ball and gave the second consecutive full toss. But the difference was that this time Suryakumar Yadav tried to play a scoop shot on it and failed. In this attempt, he lost his balance and fell on the pitch itself. However, it is a matter of relief that Suryakumar did not suffer any kind of injury and he stood up immediately.
Whatever the beginning, a good partnership was established between Suryakumar and Jacques, which took Mumbai under control. Together they added 63 runs for the 5th wicket but it was not enough for Mumbai. While Jacques was out as soon as he crossed the 100-run mark, Suryakumar Yadav scored a half-century. Still, Mumbai could reach only 175 runs and lost by 30 runs. As far as Brijesh is concerned, this fast bowler performed well. Apart from Tilak, he also dismissed Deepak Chahar and spent only 26 runs in 4 overs.
