Danish in place of Rohit? (Photo: PTI)
Rohit Sharma- Danish Malewar: Will Rohit Sharma play the next match in IPL 2026? Will he be fit for the competition? A day before the match at Wankhede nets, Rohit was seen practicing batting, but there was no emphasis in his practice. Rohit was hitting shots but not very fast. In such a situation, it is difficult to say whether he will be available for the match against Punjab Kings. However, there is nothing official on this yet. But, the question is that if Rohit does not play then who will take his place? Danish Malewar’s name is running in this race. The big thing is that Danish Malewar has not played a single T20 till date.
Leave T20, don’t play white ball cricket
Danish Malewar has been bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 30 lakh in the IPL 2026 auction. 22 year old Danish is a batsman from Vidarbha and in the name of experience, he has played only 15 first class matches. That is, leave T20, he has not yet made his debut in white ball cricket in his professional career. But, now he is getting a chance to debut in IPL for Mumbai Indians. If Rohit Sharma is out of the match against Punjab Kings due to injury, then Mumbai team management can give a chance to Danish Malewar.
Other options to replace Rohit
However, Mumbai Indians also have another alternative to Rohit in opening, Quinton de Kock, who is more experienced and has also opened for Mumbai Indians before. But, the equation of 4 foreign players in the combination of their playing team can get disturbed. Ryan Rickleton is currently opening in the team’s combination. There is Sharfan Rutherford and Mitchell Santner in the middle order while there is Trent Boult in fast bowling. Now it is up to the Mumbai team management to decide whether it removes any one of these four and gives a chance to Quinton de Kock or not?
What happened to Rohit Sharma?
Rohit Sharma had a hamstring injury in the last match against RCB. Due to injury he had to retire hurt in the match. The condition of Rohit’s injury, whether he will be out or playing, has to be decided before the match. It just remains to be seen that if he doesn’t play then who will get the chance?
