Jyeshtha Monthly Shivratri 2026: Mahashivratri is celebrated once a year on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month, but Shivratri is celebrated on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of every month, which is called Monthly Shivaratri. It falls 12 times a year. Even on monthly Shivratri, Lord Shiva is worshiped with full rituals.

On the day of monthly Shivaratri, take a pledge to worship Lord Shiva in your home temple or Shivalaya. Anoint Shivling with water, milk, curd, honey and Ganga water. After this, offer Belpatra, Dhatura, Aak flower and white sandalwood to Mahadev. Offer hemp, fruits and sweets to Lord Shiva. Chant Om Namah Shivay mantra and recite Shiva Chalisa. At night during Nishita period, anoint Shivalinga again and perform aarti.

It is believed that fasting and worshiping Shiva on the day of monthly Shivratri ends the troubles of life. By consecrating Shivalinga on this day, one attains happiness, prosperity and health. One gets freedom from the fear of untimely death.
