LDA has taken a big decision after the Aliganj fire incident. Now Fire NOC will be mandatory for all non-residential buildings in Lucknow. Under the new rule, small commercial buildings will also come under the purview of Fire NOC. Know on which institutions the new rules will be applicable.
Aliganj fire incident had raised serious questions on the building safety system in Lucknow. Now taking a lesson from this incident, Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has taken a big decision regarding the safety of non-residential buildings. By making changes in the map approval process, LDA has now made Fire NOC (No Objection Certificate) mandatory for all non-residential buildings. Under the new rule, small commercial buildings with height less than 15 meters and area less than 500 square meters will also come under this purview.
Now small commercial buildings will also have to take Fire NOC
Till now small commercial buildings were exempted from the requirement of fire NOC. However, after recent fires and safety lapses revealed in the investigation, LDA has decided to end this exemption.
Authority officials believe that many of the fire incidents exposed the lack of safety standards in small and medium-sized business establishments. In such a situation, it became necessary to bring all non-residential buildings under the ambit of uniform safety standards.

On which institutions will the new rule apply?
According to the new provision of LDA, Fire NOC will now be mandatory for construction or map approval of schools, hospitals, hotels, guest houses, banquet halls, coaching institutes, banks, gyms, cinema halls, showrooms, offices and all other non-residential buildings.
The plans of such buildings will be approved only after receiving the no objection certificate from the fire department. This means that now construction of any non-residential building will not be approved without following the fire safety standards.
Map approval process changed, security will be first priority
LDA has clarified that now the maps of non-residential buildings will be approved only when all the standards related to fire safety are ensured. Final approval will be given only after detailed examination of documents related to fire safety.
The authority says that the purpose of this decision is not only to tighten the rules, but also to reduce the possibility of future major fires in the city. This step has been taken after the shortcomings revealed in the investigation of Aliganj fire, so that the safety of people visiting commercial buildings can be better ensured. This decision is being considered important in making the building security system of Lucknow more strong and accountable in the coming times.
