‘s long-delayed film Captain India finally seems to have landed a release date. The film was first announced in 2021 with Hansal Mehta attached as director and the project had gone completely quiet for years.

Fans were even left wondering if it had been shelved. Last month, an update suggested the film is back on track and is expected to begin shooting this summer. On Thusrday, a recemt update suggests the makers have finally locked a release date for the film.

Film critic and movie trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to X (Formerly Twitter) and announced the movie’s release date. He wrote Captain India, starring Kartik Aaryan and directed by Shimit Amin, has locked its theatrical release for August 13, 2027, strategically timed around the Independence Day weekend. The film marks the first collaboration between Kartik and Amin. Backed by T-Series and Baweja Studios, the project is being presented in association with Midnight Chai Films Ltd..

Interestingly, Kartik Aaryan’s Captain India will arrive in theatres a day before  hits theatres. The film Awarapan has a huge fan following, and the movie’s sequel is experimenting with a new cast member – Disha Patani. It will be intriguing to witness a face-off between the two biggies at the box office.

Meanwhile, speaking of Captain India, the film’s first-look poster was also unveiled in July 2021, but after that, there was little to no movement. The prolonged silence only added to the uncertainty surrounding the project. Previous reported suggested that the makers are planning to start filming between May and July. In a key change, Shimit Amin, best known for directing Chak De! India, has stepped in to helm the film, replacing Hansal Mehta. There had been some chatter recently that Amin might have also exited the project, largely due to the extended delays. However, those rumours have now been put to rest, with confirmation that he remains on board and will direct the film.


At present, Kartik is busy shooting another project backed by T-Series. Once he wraps that schedule, he is expected to move directly into Captain India. The film, which is inspired by real events, is now being actively lined up for production after years of uncertainty.

On the work front, Kartik was last seen in Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri (2026), directed by Sameer Vidwans. He has a packed slate ahead, including the action-thriller Naagzilla, scheduled for release in August 2026. Apart from that, he is also working on an untitled musical with Anurag Basu and Sreeleela.
