Kamal Haasan Wanted To Be Part Of Sing Geetham: DSP

Esteemed filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao is gearing up to present one of the most ambitious projects of his illustrious career, Sing Geetham.

Produced by Nag Ashwin under the prestigious banners Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema, the film features Ayaan, Ahalya, and Shalini Kondepudi in key roles, while Rockstar Devi Sri Prasad has composed the music.

Ahead of the film’s worldwide release on June 11, DSP shared his excitement about the project and described it as one of the most rewarding experiences of his career.

“I have always been a huge admirer of Singeetham. He is a true legend. Years ago, he narrated the idea of Sing Geetham to me, and I was instantly fascinated. From that moment, I hoped I would one day get the opportunity to be part of it,” said DSP.

The composer revealed that working on Sing Geetham was unlike anything he had done before. The film is set in a village where people communicate entirely through songs instead of spoken dialogue.

“I had to convert every single dialogue in the script into music. It was the most challenging project of my career. There was no existing template to follow. We had to create an entirely new process from scratch,” he explained.

DSP recalled how his childhood habit of turning everyday words and newspaper headlines into tunes unexpectedly prepared him for this unique challenge. When he first presented a musical sequence to Singeetham, the veteran filmmaker immediately approved it, saying it was exactly the kind of music the film needed.

Calling the film a tribute to Singeetham’s creative genius, DSP praised the director’s visionary storytelling and noted that Sing Geetham combines humor with deep emotions.

“This is not just a comedy. It has wonderful emotional moments and several goosebump-inducing sequences. Audiences will gradually forget they are watching a musical and become immersed in the world of the village,” he said.

DSP also revealed that universal actor Kamal Haasan watched the film and appreciated it immensely.

“Kamal Haasan recently visited the studio and watched the film. He was extremely happy and remarked, ‘I wish I had been a part of a film like this.’ Hearing that brought us tremendous joy.”

Confident about the film’s impact, DSP believes Sing Geetham will leave audiences inspired by Singeetham’s creativity and passion, especially considering that the filmmaker continues to innovate at the age of 94.
