Actor, producer, and politician Kamal Haasan has boldly announced ‘Sandiyar’ as the title for his upcoming film with director S.
U. Arun Kumar. This decision marks a significant moment, as ‘Sandiyar’ was the original title for his 2004 blockbuster, ‘Virumaandi,’ which he was compelled to change due to widespread protests from caste-based groups.
Twenty-two years ago, the initial title sparked a major controversy, leading to demands for its alteration. Kamal Haasan, after much deliberation, reluctantly renamed his film to ‘Virumaandi.’ Now, on the eve of his birthday, Raaj Kamal Films International, Haasan’s production house, confirmed the revival of the ‘Sandiyar’ title. The announcement was accompanied by a striking poster featuring Haasan in an intense pose, holding a revolver, leaning into a car with visible bloodstains – hinting at a gritty action thriller.
The film boasts a formidable technical team, including music maestro Anirudh Ravichander, National Award-winning stunt choreographers Anbariv, and cinematographer Sunil K.S. C.S. Balachander handles production design, while Amritha Ram is responsible for costumes. Produced by Kamal Haasan and R. Mahendran, with S. Disney as co-producer, ‘Sandiyar’ is poised to be a powerful cinematic statement.
