Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar joined a chorus of prominent figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in extending warm greetings to citizens on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras.
Kumar, known for his family-friendly image, wished his fans prosperity and good fortune, stating, “May Goddess Lakshmi bless you and your family with prosperity and good fortune. Dhanteras ki dher saari shubhkamnayein.”
Prime Minister Modi, in his message, invoked Lord Dhanvantari, the Hindu deity associated with health and medicine, wishing for happiness, peace, and excellent health for all. He shared a Sanskrit verse, emphasizing the traditional roots of the festival. Home Minister Amit Shah echoed these sentiments, wishing for prosperity and well-being.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath focused on promoting local artisans and traditional crafts. He urged people to support products from regions like Bhadohi (carpets), Prayagraj (Moonj craft), Mainpuri (Tarkashi work), and Chitrakoot (wooden toys), highlighting the state’s rich cultural heritage and boosting self-reliance during the festive season.
Dhanteras marks the beginning of the five-day Diwali festival. It’s a day when many purchase new jewelry or utensils, symbolizing prosperity. The celebrations continue with Naraka Chaturdashi (Chhoti Diwali), followed by the main Diwali day dedicated to worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj conclude the festivities, with sisters praying for their brothers’ well-being and exchanging gifts.
