Why is the month of Sawan special?
The month of Sawan has special significance in Hindu religion. It is believed that this month is very dear to Lord Shiva. Therefore, special worship of Lord Shiva is done in this month. People visit major Shiva temples and worship Lord Shiva through fasting. This time the month of Sawan is starting from 30th July, which will continue till 28th August.
Chaturmas also from this month
The importance of Chaturmas has been mentioned in religious texts. The months of Sawan, Bhadau, Ashwin and Kartik come in Chaturmas. It is believed that during these 4 months of Chaturmas, Lord Vishnu goes to the underworld and rests and Lord Shiva governs the creation. Many strict rules related to this month are also mentioned in religious texts. This time Chaturmas will start from 25th July and will continue till 21st November.
