BJP MP Anurag Thakur said that the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on ‘One Nation, One Election’ is taking advice from political parties and institutions across the country for its report. The administrative impact of repeated elections in Goa was discussed.

JPC taking advice from all stakeholders

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur said the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on ‘One Nation, One Election’ is simultaneously consulting political parties, government officials and various institutions during its nationwide study tour to gather inputs to prepare its report on the elections.

Thakur told reporters here on Friday that the committee is holding discussions with multiple stakeholders including public representatives, political parties, government officials, legal experts, judicial representatives, public sector organizations and banking institutions.

“The Joint Parliamentary Committee on ‘One Nation, One Election’ is visiting various states to consult public representatives, political parties, bureaucrats and various institutions ranging from the legal fraternity and judiciary to public sector bodies and banks,” Thakur said.

Important inputs received from Goa tour

Highlighting the presentations given during the Goa visit, Thakur said the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and officials of various departments explained how frequent elections affect the administrative functioning even in a small state.

“The Chief Minister, along with the Chief Secretary and officials of various departments, showed how significant an impact frequent elections have even on a small state like Goa. One can only imagine how big an impact it will have on larger states and the entire country,” he said.

Terming the Goa visit as an important part of the committee’s study process, Thakur said the ground-level feedback received from various states will help the panel prepare its report.

“One can only imagine the magnitude of its impact on larger states and the country as a whole. I believe this is an important study tour. It provides ground-level insights that will greatly help the committee in drafting its report,” he said.

Now the committee will go to Lucknow, the report will be final on 17th July

“The committee will next travel to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, where it will meet political parties, the state government, the leader of the opposition, the chief minister and officials of various departments,” he said.

The JPC is expected to finalize and adopt the report at its meeting on July 17, after which it will be tabled in Parliament for further consideration. (ANI)
