Vaibhav Sooryavanshi missed out on scoring his maiden first-class century after being dismissed for 92 in the semi-final of the Duleep Trophy 2026-27. The left-handed batter went for a big shot off Harsh Dubey and was caught on the boundary ropes.
Sooryavanshi was frustrated after missing out on the milestone and he smashed his bat on the field before walking off. He and Abhimanyu Easwaran added 161 runs for the first wicket. Easwaran also failed to convert his start into a big knock and was dismissed for 69.
Dubey followed up with his second wicket on the very next ball after dismissing Sooryavanshi and removed Kumar Kushagra for a duck. None of the other East Zone batters could breach the 30-run mark and they were dismissed for 266.
Dubey took a four-fer while Yash Thakur and Aryan Pandey scalped three wickets each. Central Zone lost three wickets by the end of the day for just 43 runs. They lead by 43 runs and would want to set a target of more than 200.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hasn’t scored a century
Vaibhav hasn’t scored a century in first-class cricket yet. He has scored 307 runs in 14 innings played thus far. His tally includes two half-centuries. Sooryavanshi has hit 13 sixes in his first-class career.
A capped player in T20Is, Sooryavanshi hasn’t played an unofficial Test match for India A yet. He could be in the scheme of things if he continues his form in the Duleep Trophy.
Meanwhile, the South Zone team finished the second day of the semi-final with a big 90-run lead. They dismissed North Zone for 195. Tilak Varma, who is uncapped in Tests, shone for South Africa and he is batting on 106.
Shreyas Gopal also shone with the bat and he scored a crucial 88. North Zone will have their task cut out in their second innings of the game.
