JDU’s support to examination reform bill
New Delhi [भारत]July 27 (ANI): Janata Dal-United (JD-U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha on Monday welcomed the government’s steps on exam reforms, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been taking the initiative since the paper leak issue came to light and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill will help ensure foolproof exams in future.
Speaking to ANI, Jha said, “The bill being introduced in the Lok Sabha today, the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, will ensure foolproof examinations in the times to come…”
On the high-powered task force on examination reforms formed under the leadership of Nandan Nilekani, Jha said, “From the day this issue has come up, PM Modi has been taking the initiative.” He further said, “A task force has been formed…”
CPI(M) raised questions on the government’s action
However, Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M) MP John Brittas criticized the government’s move to form the task force, and questioned the need for another committee and asked what happened to the Radhakrishnan committee report on examination reforms.
Speaking to ANI, Brittas said, “I am happy that the Prime Minister appreciates Nandan Nilekani. In fact, the Prime Minister laughed at him when he was made in-charge of the Aadhaar project…”
He further said, “I really want to ask the government what happened to the Radhakrishnan Committee, which was apparently appointed two years ago. That committee submitted a report of 184 pages. The government is sitting on it…”
Brittas added, “This way they want to sidestep the issue and not address the real concern of the students.” He said, “I think it is not the committees but the lack of will and a transparent system that is missing in our country…”
These comments came before the government introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, following the nationwide controversy over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, which seeks to strengthen the legal framework against paper leaks and exam-related malpractices.
