Axar Patel fined: BCCI has taken action against Delhi Capitals captain Akshar Patel. Action was taken against them after the match played between Punjab and Delhi. After this action, Akshar Patel has also now joined the group of captains of IPL 2026 on whom BCCI has taken action earlier. DC captain Akshar Patel has become a victim of slow over rate against Punjab Kings, for which he has been fined Rs 12 lakh.

This is the first case related to slow over rate of DC captain Akshar Patel in IPL 2026. This is the reason why he was fined Rs 12 lakh, which is the least punishment a captain can receive for this mistake. Before Akshar Patel, captains like Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad have also been fined for slow over rate in IPL 2026. Shreyas Iyer has become its victim twice.
How did Akshar Patel play a role in Delhi’s victory?
Even though Akshar Patel had to bear the brunt of the team’s slow over rate in the match against Punjab Kings, his team was successful in winning the match. However, he also played a big role in this victory. Akshar Patel played a brilliant inning of 56 runs in the match against Punjab Kings, which is also his biggest innings in IPL 2026. Earlier this season, he had not even scored a total of 50 runs leave alone a half-century with his bat.

Batting first in the match, Punjab Kings scored 210 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Delhi Capitals, chasing the target of 211 runs, registered victory in the 19th over itself. He won the match by 3 wickets in one over. Along with this, it has also kept its hope of reaching the playoffs intact.
