Industry happy with Delhi government’s EV policy, electric vehicles will get a boost, pollution will also reduce

Delhi EV Policy

The new Electric Vehicle (EV) policy of Delhi Government will speed up the adoption of electric vehicles among the common people, reduce pollution caused by vehicles and strengthen the infrastructure of this sector. Industry organizations said this.

Delhi government approved the new EV policy on Monday. Under this, all electric cars with ex-showroom price of Rs 30 lakh or less registered in the national capital will get 100 percent exemption in road tax and registration fees. Under the new policy, those purchasing electric two-wheelers will be given a subsidy of Rs 30,000 in the first year, Rs 20,000 in the second year and Rs 10,000 in the third year.

Electric vehicles will get a boost

Industry body FICCI General Secretary Anant Swarup said that this provision of subsidy will encourage the common people to adopt electric vehicles and will extend the benefits of clean transportation to a wider section of the society. Swarup said, on the one hand, this policy emphasizes on tackling the problem of air pollution caused by vehicles, while on the other hand it also focuses on strengthening the EV infrastructure. Assocham President Nirmal Minda said that this policy is a visionary initiative to tackle the persistent challenge of air pollution in the capital and promote sustainable urban transport. The proposed investment of Rs 15,000 crore to strengthen the EV ecosystem, including charging infrastructure and incentives, reflects the commitment required to accelerate the transition to clean transportation. Minda said that this policy can significantly reduce vehicle emissions as well as create new economic opportunities and can become a model for other states to adopt such clean transportation policies as per their local needs.

A big step towards creating a pollution free city

Reacting to the development, Tarun Mehta, co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ather Energy, said on social media platform ‘X’ that Delhi’s EV policy is one of the most important city-level initiatives to promote electrification in India. He said that the biggest feature of this policy is not just the size of investment but its design. The combination of incentives, provisions for phased electrification and charging infrastructure creates a strong base.

Tata Motors told the right step

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles spokesperson said, ‘Delhi has once again demonstrated leadership by taking steps in the right direction. By setting ambitious timelines for high-end vehicle segments and focusing policy incentives on electric vehicles, the government has reinforced the principle that public support should promote technologies that deliver maximum environmental benefits with zero emissions. The policy, approved by the Delhi Cabinet, will be implemented from July 1. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has called it a big step towards making Delhi a pollution-free city by March 31, 2030.
