IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is once again raising fuel charges on domestic and international flights from October 6, 2026, adding another cost to air tickets as aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices climb sharply.
The revised charges apply to all new bookings made from 12:01 AM on October 6. IndiGo said ATF prices have risen for three consecutive months, with the latest increase taking fuel costs to among their highest levels in the past decade.
IndiGo Domestic Fuel Charges From October 6
For domestic flights, the fuel charge will now range from ₹375 to ₹1,300, depending on the distance travelled.
| Domestic route distance | Fuel charge from Oct 6, 2026 |
|---|---|
| 0–500 km | ₹375 |
| 501–1,000 km | ₹600 |
| 1,001–1,500 km | ₹900 |
| 1,501–2,000 km | ₹1,150 |
| Above 2,000 km | ₹1,300 |
This is the second revision of IndiGo’s distance-based fuel charge structure this year. Compared with the rates introduced in April, passengers will pay between ₹100 and ₹350 more per sector.
| Distance | April 2026 | October 2026 | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–500 km | ₹275 | ₹375 | ₹100 |
| 501–1,000 km | ₹400 | ₹600 | ₹200 |
| 1,001–1,500 km | ₹600 | ₹900 | ₹300 |
| 1,501–2,000 km | ₹800 | ₹1,150 | ₹350 |
| Above 2,000 km | ₹950 | ₹1,300 | ₹350 |
IndiGo International Fuel Charges
International passengers will also see higher fuel charges on new bookings from October 6.
| International region | Fuel charge |
|---|---|
| SAARC, up to 500 km | ₹1,000 |
| SAARC, 501 km and above | ₹3,000 |
| Southeast Asia | ₹5,500 |
| GCC & West Asia | ₹5,500 |
| North & East Asia | ₹5,500 |
| Africa | ₹6,000 |
| Europe | ₹10,000 |
For Indian travellers, this means flights to popular destinations such as Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Singapore and Bangkok will carry the revised fuel charge. At the same time, Europe-bound tickets remain at the highest international level of ₹10,000.
Why Is IndiGo Increasing Fuel Charges?
Domestic ATF prices rose by ₹16 per litre, or around 13.2%, from October 1, increasing from ₹121 to ₹137 per litre. This followed price increases in both August and September.
ATF is one of the biggest expenses for airlines and can account for around 40% of operating costs. When fuel prices stay high for several months, airlines have limited room to absorb the additional expense.
IndiGo said fully passing on the increase in fuel costs would have required a much larger fuel-charge increase, but the airline chose a smaller adjustment to limit the impact on passengers.
The pattern is becoming familiar across Indian aviation: when fuel prices remain elevated, airlines increasingly use separate fuel charges instead of immediately raising the headline fare.
When Did IndiGo Last Increase Fuel Charges?
IndiGo last revised its fuel charges in April 2026, when it moved to a distance-based domestic structure ranging from ₹275 to ₹950.
The airline had initially introduced a domestic fuel charge of ₹425 in March 2026. International fuel charges were also introduced and later revised, with Europe and UK routes eventually reaching ₹10,000.
The latest revision follows three consecutive monthly increases in ATF prices.
What Does the New Charge Mean for Passengers?
The fuel charge is added to the ticket price, so the final amount paid by passengers will be higher than the advertised base fare.
For example, a domestic IndiGo flight of more than 2,000 km will now carry a ₹1,300 fuel charge per sector. On a return journey, that amounts to ₹2,600 before considering the other taxes and ticket components.
Travellers booking flights after October 6 should therefore compare the final ticket price, rather than relying only on the headline fare.

Travelobiz Take:
We see this as a reasonable response to surging ATF, but passengers should compare final fares carefully, especially on longer domestic and Europe-bound IndiGo flights.
