‘I had to leave everything I had’
Harish says that he was born in a family of builders in India, but spent most of his childhood in Nairobi, Kenya. He calls himself a sixth generation builder and says that cement and bricks are in his blood. Harish told that when he was young, he was sent to his uncle in the UK due to differences with his father. At the same time, he married a woman of Indian origin educated in the UK. Their marriage lasted 35 years and they also had a family business. But, after the divorce, he had to leave all his property and business to his wife and two daughters.
After this, at the age of 55, he left everything and went back to Africa. “In Africa, I’m not just building buildings. I built businesses. I built people,” he said. Harish says that going to Africa after divorce gave him a new purpose in life. He admitted that the division of assets and liabilities was a huge blow to his life.
